Coach Mike Dougherty "Coach Doc" has been coaching high school football for over 20 years and has been at the helm of the Bruin Football program since 2017. Prior to LB, Coach Doc was the head coach at W.T. Woodson High School for 3 years. During those years, the Woodson Football program was transformed into a playoff contender that produced some of the most prolific offensive statistical seasons in school history. Previously, Coach Doc spent 6 seasons as Head Coach at Stonewall Jackson High School (now Unity Reed) in Prince William County and 5 seasons as Head Coach at Dominion High School in Loudoun County. Coach Doc teaches Personal Fitness at Lake Braddock. He is also the proud husband of Jennifer, and proud father of two multi-sport athletes: daughter Logan, a West Point graduate and lacrosse alum, and son Drew, a WVU Mountaineer.

Krista Murphy, Director of Football Operations & Asst. Offensive Coordinator

Coach Murphy has been coaching high school football since 2011. Prior to joining the Bruin Football staff, she worked alongside Coach Doc for 3 years as his Director of Football Operations at W.T. Woodson High School and 4 years at Stonewall Jackson High School (now Unity Reed) in the same role. Previously, she has coached basketball, softball, track & field, tennis, and volleyball at schools in both the Richmond area and in southwestern Virginia. She has also served as a VHSL official for basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball. Football has always been her passion. Coach Murphy is originally from Pocahontas, Virginia, where she earned All-District honors in four sports for the Indians and was salutatorian of her graduating class. She currently teaches Athletic Leadership as well as Health, Physical, & Driver Education at Lake Braddock. Coach and her wife Danielle have one four-pawed son, Misko.

Cullen Younts, Assistant Head Coach & Varsity Offensive Coordinator 

Coach Cullen began his football coaching career in 2005, just after he graduated from high school! Before making the jump to Lake Braddock, Coach Cullen was the Offensive Coordinator at W.T. Woodson for 3 years under Coach Doc. Prior to that, he coached the offensive line for 9 seasons at Stonewall Jackson (now Unity Reed), the last 6 with Coach Doc. He also served as the Run Game Coordinator for three seasons with the Raiders. Coach Cullen was a four-year Center for coach Loren Johnson, blocking for both Chris Garrett of the CFL and Ryan Williams, the Virginia Tech standout turned second-round NFL Draft selection. He currently works in Stonewall Jackson Special Education's Severe Autism Department and enjoys spending his limited free time with his wife, Samantha and their two children Dominic and Isabella.

Originally from Carroltown, PA, a small town in the Johnstown-Altoona area of Western PA, Coach Gaul is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy who has completed 3 degrees: B.S. in Sport Management (Old Dominion University), B.S. in Health & Physical Education (George Mason University), and M.S. in Athletic Administration (Ohio University). He began coaching football in 2006 and currently serves as a Health & Physical Education Teacher at Lake Braddock. Coach Gaul resides in Alexandria with his football-loving wife, Barbara.

Brandon Smith - Varsity Running Backs Coach, JV Head Coach, & JV Offensive Coordinator

Coach Smith began coaching at LB in 2017, initially serving as JV and then the Freshman offensive coordinator. Prior to LBSS, he served 3 seasons at W.T. Woodson: the first as Varsity Assistant Offensive Line Coach, the last two as Freshman Offensive Coordinator, as well as one season on the freshman football staff at Lee High School. He has coached with BRYC football since 2007 and currently serves as the Director of Recruiting and Retention. In 2013, Coach Smith was the Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the VA State Champion Northern Virginia FBU 7th Grade team in the Football University National Championship tournament. Coach Smith has worked with athletes in Fairfax County and Virginia for more than 15 years, including serving as President of Fairfax National Little League for several years and coaching baseball, basketball,soccer, and football. Coach Smith was a national finalist for the Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal award in 2011 and was presented with the Champion of Character award in 2012 by Fairfax County for his approach to coaching football. Prior to his coaching career, Coach Smith played football and wrestled at Godwin High School in Richmond, VA. He, his wife Shelley, and children Nate and Hannah are looking forward to the coming season!
